He started racing motorcycles and then competed in 500cc racing in the early 1950s. He bought the Connaught Racing Team in 1957 and had 2 attempts at driving a Connaught F1 car in 1958. He managed the cars for Roy Salvadori, Archie Scott-Brown, Ivor Bueb and his friend, Stuart Lewis-Evans until he died of injuries sustained in the 1958 Moroccan GP.
