Description
The memories of that fateful night at Donington Park still linger vividly in my mind. It was a chilly autumn evening in 1988, and the Sheffield Tigers were set to take on their arch-rivals, the Kings Lynn Starlets, in a British League encounter that would be etched in history forever.
As I sat in the grandstands, surrounded by thousands of screaming fans, I could feel the electric atmosphere building. The Tigers, led by their fearless skipper Davey Todd, were looking to upset the Stars’ hopes of defending their title. And then it happened – a burst of speed down the straight, courtesy of young Brian Jacks, sent the crowd into raptures as the Tigers took an early lead.
The battle was on, with both teams giving it their all in a thrilling contest that saw several high-speed crashes and dramatic comebacks. In the end, it was the Tigers who emerged victorious, claiming their fifth British League title of the season. It was a night to remember, one that would stay with me for years to come.
