The start was a disaster for Senna as he stalled but with help from the Suzuka slope managed to bump start but still dropped to 14th. Senna's recovery was sensational as by the end of the first lap he had recovered six places and by lap 4 he had recovered to 4th as he continued to chase down the cars in front.
