By 2016 the LMP1 grid at Le Mans was a three-way hybrid war between Porsche, Audi and Toyota, each running sophisticated energy-recovery systems down the Mulsanne. The race turned on its head in the closing minutes when the leading #5 Toyota TS050 of Sebastien Buemi, Anthony Davidson and Kazuki Nakajima lost power on what should have been the penultimate lap.
